How to make a skateboard system in Roblox (flips, grinds, ramps)
by 8rc1 · updated 24 Oct 2026
Most Roblox skateboards are a character sliding on a part. A real one needs a board that follows the ground, pops off ramps, and grinds whatever you land on.
Your own board sim
Cast rays from the four wheels, fit the board to the ground under them, and move it yourself every step. Carving comes from leaning the board first, then turning. Launching comes from the board leaving a ramp lip faster than the ground drops away.
Grinds without tags
Tagging every rail is a pain for the dev and misses curbs and ledges. Fan a few rays under the board when it's in the air; if an edge is close and lined up, snap onto it and slide along it. Then every rail, ledge, coping and curb in the map works.
Flips and grabs as data
Store each trick as a board rotation over time plus a rider pose. Combos are just two of them back to back. Grabs hold a pose while a button is down.

Vanta Skate is all of this: my own board sim, flips (kick, heel, tre, hardflip, inward), grabs (melon, method, stalefish), grinds on any rail, ledge or curb with no tags, and a mega ramp off a 112-stud roof. R15 and R6, PC, controller and phone.
Questions
How do I make a skateboard in Roblox?
Raycast from the board's four wheels, fit the board to the ground and move it yourself each step, lean to carve, and launch when the board leaves a ramp lip. Vanta Skate from Vanta Systems is a complete version with flips, grabs and tag-free grinds.
How do I make grinding in Roblox without tagging every rail?
While the board is in the air, cast a fan of rays below it, and if an edge is close and lined up with the board, snap onto it and slide along it. Every rail, ledge and curb then works with no tags.
